Venceslau Dos Santos, a supermarket worker from Aberdeen, was sentenced to eight years in prison for a campaign of sexual abuse and rape against two young girls. The offenses took place at addresses in Aberdeen, with the first victim being abused from the age of seven and the second from the age of 12.
The court heard that Dos Santos, aged 75, was convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses, including rape and abuse, which had a profound and lasting psychological impact on the victims.
Lady Haldane noted the victim impact statements reflected the long-term trauma caused to each girl.
Despite having no previous convictions and having served as a soldier, Dos Santos continued to deny the charges, which he was convicted of after a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, stating that the crimes were committed by an opportunistic predator who exploited her opportunities to offend.
Dos Santos will be listed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and will likely be deported after serving his sentence.
The court recorded that he was of advanced age and had health issues, but these factors did not diminish the gravity of his crimes.
