MAN RAMMED GIRLFRIEND'S CAR AND STOLE VAN WITH PUPPY INSIDE

A man launched a harrowing street attack by repeatedly crashing his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle.

This assault was the climax of a series of criminal acts committed by Tyrone Jugessur, including the theft of a van containing a puppy and being found with another van stolen from a BBC film set, which had valuable equipment worth thousands of pounds.

During proceedings, Jugessur’s lawyer informed Cardiff Crown Court that her client, aged 34 and with a record of 42 previous offences, recognizes the need for change.

She noted his desire to return to being a full-time father.

The court was told that his criminal activity started in May last year when he stole a Ford Transit van from a BBC worker’s film set in Dinas Powys, which contained £10,000 worth of gear.

Although the suspect’s identity was initially unknown, the van was later recovered in Sully, with Jugessur in possession.

Two weeks following this, he stole a van after the driver briefly left the vehicle to speak with a colleague.

The vehicle contained tools and the driver’s 17-week-old puppy, which Jugessur took before fleeing.

In July, Jugessur stole a car belonging to a newspaper delivery worker in Rhiwbina, Cardiff.

He drove the vehicle away alongside a van.

Police later found the stolen car and observed him fleeing the scene.

They recovered blank Ford key fobs and a diagnostic device from the van.

Things escalated in December when Jugessur argued with his ex-girlfriend about her texting.

He seized her phone, smashed it, and damaged her car keys.

On December 31, witnesses reported hearing a woman in a black Mercedes in Llanishen shouting for police.

Jugessur, following her in a Seat Leon, repeatedly rammed her vehicle from behind.

In her impact statement, the woman described how her fear has made her reluctant to drive, resulting in loss of independence as she now depends on friends and family for lifts.

She shared her emotional distress and the possibility of needing to move from her home.

Jugessur, of Lynmouth Crescent, Llanrumney, Cardiff, had pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including dangerous driving, multiple vehicle thefts, driving offences, handling stolen goods, and criminal damage.

He has a history of 42 offences, with 25 convictions, mostly related to vehicle theft and motoring violations.

He is also a disqualified driver, having never completed an extended driving test after previous bans.

Martha Smith-Higgins, for Jugessur, acknowledged his poor record but highlighted a period of no offending from 2022 to 2025, during which he had been making efforts to improve.

She emphasised his awareness of the need to change and his aspiration to be a full-time father.

Following his guilty pleas, Recorder Greg Bull KC sentenced Jugessur to 40 months in prison.

He will serve half in custody, with the remainder to be spent on licence in the community.
