ABERDEEN MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULTS ON TEEN AND BAR VICTIM
Tristrum Hutchison, a 36-year-old resident of Portland Street, Aberdeen, was sentenced to 16 months in jail following two separate assaults in the city center. The court heard that he head-butted a 15-year-old boy around 6.40pm on November 24, 2022, outside a shop on Crown Street.
During this incident, the boy suffered injuries including the loss of some teeth and a bleeding lip; some of the teeth had to be removed later due to damage and discoloration.
Hutchison approached a group of youths while shouting incoherently, and after engaging with them, he head-butted the juvenile and shouted, 'You think you’re hard banging on the window?' He then drove away, but was later tracked down via CCTV footage and arrested.
While in custody, Hutchison admitted to confronting the youths because his partner, who worked in a beauty salon, called him to say they were standing outside.
He claimed he didn’t intend to go that far but believed the boy deserved it, replying to police caution by saying, ‘He f***ing deserved it.’ The second assault occurred on September 1, 2023, at around 12.40am outside Paramount Bar, where Hutchison was seen in conversation with his victim in the smoking area.
He punched the victim in the head, knocking him unconscious and leaving him with a substantial head injury requiring hospital treatment and permanent scarring.
The victim was taken to hospital with injuries, and Hutchison, detained by bar stewards, was also arrested.
His defense argued that the incidents were reactions to ongoing issues with youths near his partner’s workplace, and that his actions in the second case were driven by a mistaken belief that the victim previously assaulted him.
The sheriff emphasized that both assaults resulted in injury and disfigurement, and that other methods could have been used to disperse the youths.
As a result, Hutchison was sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment for his actions.
The judge highlighted the unnecessary nature of the violence and the serious injuries inflicted, stating that custody was the only appropriate outcome given the circumstances.
