TREVER HARRIS LIVES NEAR KINGSGATE NURSERY DESPITE CHILD PORN CONVICTION

In December 2006, disturbing revelations emerged about Trevor Harris, a convicted child pornography offender, who resides in a flat that overlooks a nursery school playground in Kingsgate, Kent. The Sun newspaper obtained exclusive photographs showing Harris, aged 45, lurking near the children’s play area, raising serious concerns among local parents and authorities alike.

Harris, who was previously convicted for exchanging explicit images of children as young as five being sexually abused via the internet, is subject to a court order that bans him from having any contact with minors. However, this legal restriction does not prohibit him from living in close proximity to a nursery, specifically the ABC Nursery in Kingsgate. This loophole has prompted police to promise a review of their monitoring procedures concerning Harris’s living arrangements.

When approached by The Sun, Harris, who was handed an 18-month community rehabilitation order in June of the previous year, expressed a willingness to relocate if parents or the community expressed concern. He stated, “I have never abused a child — but I understand children were abused in the photos that were sent to me. I am really sorry for what I’ve done. It’s the worst mistake of my life. If where I’m living gets out because of the feeling against me, I will have to move again.”

Despite his assurances, local parents remain deeply troubled. Yesterday, many expressed outrage upon learning that Harris’s flat is situated directly overlooking the nursery yard where young children play. One mother voiced her frustration, saying, “I was furious when I found out he was living right beside the nursery. I can’t believe it can be allowed. You never know what might happen to these children. I don’t think it’s right. It’s abominable.”

Harris’s criminal history includes a conviction by magistrates in Thanet, Kent, after authorities discovered approximately 300 child sex images on his computer. Investigations revealed that he had actively searched paedophile chat rooms, seeking and exchanging images depicting child abuse. Harris later admitted to the court, “I’m ashamed of myself. The internet destroyed me. It was an addiction. It’s ruined my marriage and my life. I used to come home from work and get bored and go on the computer. It was like swapping football cards. Somebody would ask, ‘Can you send a child picture?’ or ‘Have you got any of these pictures?’ I did swap a couple. There’s no point lying. I deleted them but you can’t get rid of them.”

In response to the community’s concerns, Detective Chief Inspector Lee Russell of East Kent Police stated last night, “This person has a Sex Offender Protection Order in force and has strict conditions on his access to children. It doesn’t prevent him from living where he resides. He is regularly monitored and visited by specially trained officers. In view of the concerns raised, I’ve asked my officers to review this matter in detail.”
