MORDA MAN JAILED FOR HISTORIC CHILD RAPE
Trevor Brereton, of Erw Wen, Morda, was found guilty by a jury of raping a female under 16 years. The offences took place between in the late 1970s when Brereton was under 18.
He was indicted on a single count of rape, but the court heard this related to a series of incidents against one victim across a two-year spell.
Last Friday, June 6, Brereton, now 61, was jailed for four years for the offence by Recorder Gregory Bull KC.
Mr Bull explained that his sentence would be deemed a detention order, as he had to sentence him as if he were the age at which he committed the offence.
He continued: "You have shown no remorse either throughout these proceedings or at any stage.
You continue to deny the offence." Mr Bull added: "Justice delayed is often justice denied, as it has been in this case both to her and to you." A statement from the victim, read out to the court, said: "My whole life has been a rollercoaster, but with more downs than ups.
It was something that happened that will never go away, but you just have to live with it as best you can." Brereton was told her will serve half of his sentence in prison and the rest on licence.
He was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely, and a restraining order was made for 10 years to protect the victim.
