CARDIFF MAN JAILED FOR RELENTLESS STALKING AND THREATS TO EX-PARTNER
A stalker made his former partner's life a living hell after incessantly calling her and turning up at her home.He later told a probation officer he would "put her in a box." Tre Taylor, 25, of Cardiff, had previously been in a relationship with his victim but after their separation, he stalked her between March and December 2023.
During this period, he continually pursued her, refusing to leave her alone.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard that Taylor phone, messaged, and visited the victim's home repeatedly despite her requests for no contact.
When he was unable to reach her directly, he would contact her friends, and when dissatisfied with their responses, he would appear at her residence, knocking on the door, going around the back, and tapping on the windows.
The court was informed that he also made threats of violence towards the victim.
During discussions with a probation officer, he threatened to "end" any potential partners of hers and also mentioned that he would "end them." He also threatened to "put her in a box" if she did not allow him access to their child, implying that it would be acceptable if she conformed to his demands.
Taylor was arrested after the victim reported him to the police and subsequently pleaded guilty to the offence of stalking during a trial.
He has four prior convictions, including possession of an offensive weapon, specifically a machete.
In a victim personal statement read to the court by prosecutor Bethan Evans, the victim described the emotional toll of the stalking and abuse, stating: "I want to explain how the stalking and abuse by Tre has affected my life.
The fear and stress has left emotional scars, and I continue to struggle.
Every day since the stalking began, I lived in constant fear.
I had to change my daily routine, avoid certain areas, and be on high alert.
Feelings of being watched and followed made it impossible to feel safe in my own home.
I have anxiety and panic attacks when I see someone who resembles Tre or hear unexpected noises.
It has affected my ability to live a normal life, and it took a long time to rebuild friendships.
I have long-term emotional wounds.
He not only destroyed my self-esteem but made me distrustful of others, especially men.
He made me feel trapped in a cycle of fear." In mitigation, Kathryn Lane explained that her client had a difficult upbringing, which impacted his thinking, attitude, and emotional management.
Recorder Christopher Felstead sentenced Tre Taylor to three years in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order against him.
