FIFE MAN JAILED FOR TWO YEARS FOR ABUSIVE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A baseball bat-wielding domestic abuser from Fife told a woman he was going to have to kill her as he treated her “like an animal” for two years.Tomasso Palumbo, 56, repeatedly assaulted his partner, throttling her, punching her, hitting her with a phone, and locking windows and doors to prevent her from leaving a property.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Palumbo appeared from custody and was sentenced by Sheriff Susan Duff to over two years in prison.
He pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of abusive behaviour against his ex-partner between March 1, 2020, and August 22, 2022, at addresses in Dunfermline, Inverkeithing, Edinburgh, and Kirkliston.
The court heard distressing testimonies from the victim, including that she was controlled and treated like an animal, and that she now lives in fear, receiving counselling.
The attacks included pinning her to the floor with a baseball bat, strangulation over Facebook inquiries, slapping, kicking, and biting by her dog during an incident where she attempted to escape.
Palumbo also followed her closely when she was driving home, and in 2022, he grabbed her by the neck and strangled her after questioning her about a Facebook friend.
The victim recounted feeling unable to leave due to fear for her life, especially after Palumbo would lock her in the house and prevent her from leaving.
She finally sought help at a job centre, which was when her relationship ended.
Palumbo has previous convictions for assault, robbery, and theft, among other offences.
His lawyer stated that he was coping with traumatic losses and had relapsed into drug use, acknowledging his abusive behavior and showing willingness to undertake treatment.
Sheriff Duff sentenced him to 26.5 months backdated to June 12, 2024, and banned him from contacting the victim for three years.
