SCHOOL WORKER JAILED FOR SEXUALLY ABUSING PUPIL
A 30-year-old man employed at a school in Wrexham has been sentenced to prison for engaging in grooming and sexually abusing a student.Toby Haslam, aged 30 and residing on Old Newcastle Road in Willaston, appeared before Mold Crown Court for sentencing on April 15.
He entered guilty pleas to nine charges, which included seven counts of sexual activity with a minor two of which involved penetration along with one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child and possession of an indecent image of a minor.
Haslam received a custodial sentence of six years and was also issued a ten-year restraining order aimed at safeguarding the victim.
Additionally, he was granted a ten-year sexual harm prevention order and is required to register with police on an ongoing basis.
The case arose after North Wales Police received information in September 2024 indicating that Haslam had been grooming a 15-year-old student at the school.
Investigations revealed that he had taken the girl to his home and sexually assaulted her.
It was also established that Haslam had communicated with the minor through social media, with their interactions turning sexual in nature, and that he had purchased her multiple gifts.
Authorities also discovered indecent images of the girl on his phone.
When the victim returned to school following the summer break, she disclosed her relationship with Haslam to a teacher.
