CHESTER CROWN COURT JUDGE SPARES RAILWAY BOSS FROM JAIL
A FORMER boss of Chester’s Grosvenor Park Miniature Railway was spared jail on Friday for three counts of sexual assault.
Timothy Jones, 45, of Carter Close, was convicted at trial in November 2025 for sexual assault of a person between October 2022 and April 2023.
He returned to Chester Crown Court on Friday to face his sentence from Judge Simon Berkson, who also oversaw the trial.
Prosecutor Paulinus Barnes told the court that Jones repeatedly touched the bottom of his victim on multiple occasions.
He added that after being told to stop, Jones continued to make inappropriate comments.
Judge Berkson acknowledged Jones was in charge of the railway, abusing his position.
Richard English KC, defending, stated his client accepted the jury’s verdict and that the victim should not have been targeted.
He emphasized Jones has no prior convictions and no offences while on bail.
The judge noted Jones's autism and his interest in miniature railways, stating he had been in a position of trust and had made suggestive comments, eventually turning to physical contact.
He sentenced Jones to 12 months for two counts of sexual assault, and 3 months for a standalone sexual assault, all suspended for two years.
Jones will also carry out 20 rehabilitation days, be on a 6-month curfew, be placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years, and be banned from working with children.
A restraining order against the victim and a five-year sexual harm prevention order were also issued.
