PAEDOPHILE CAUGHT WITH OVER 3000 INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
A convicted paedophile who confessed to possessing thousands of images depicting ‘sick porn’ concealed his face as he was released from court.Timothy Johnson, 45 years old, was cautioned by the judge that his denial of a sexual interest in children was so close to truth that it nearly resulted in imprisonment.
Prosecutor Lisa Bowles informed Bournemouth Crown Court on October 7 that Dorset Police had become aware of Johnson’s online activity and tracked his IP address to his residence.
During a search of his home on June 2, 2023, officers discovered references to “sick porn” on his electronic devices.
Law enforcement seized 565 of the most serious child indecent images alongside 401 category B and 2,711 category C images, including both still and moving pictures, accessed over a period from March 11, 2019, to May 31, 2023.
The content depicted children as young as two years old, up to 12 years old.
During mitigation, lawyer Michael Phillips pointed out that Johnson was himself a victim of sexual abuse as a child, which he believes contributed to his actions.
He also noted that Johnson, in his 30s, developed an addiction to legal pornography.
By 2019, Johnson’s wife was pregnant, experiencing a difficult pregnancy, which purportedly led him to shift his focus to indecent images of children, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19.
Judge Robert Pawson remarked that he was unconvinced by the claim that Johnson’s own past abuse explained his conduct, emphasizing that Johnson had downloaded images showing children suffering extreme sexual abuse, which causes lasting harm.
The judge criticized Johnson's denial of having a sexual interest in children as “absolute poppycock,” adding that his actions directly contributed to the exploitation of children.
Johnson, residing on Kings Street in Sturminster Marshall, was sentenced to 12 months in prison suspended for two years on three counts of making indecent images of children.
He was also ordered to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activities and 300 hours of unpaid community service.
Additionally, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offenders register for a decade.
