YAPTON MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR RAPING WOMAN AT PARTY
A member of the street community named Timothy Evans has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for raping a woman in a flat two years prior to his sentencing. The incident occurred in April 2015 at a property on Surrey Street, Littlehampton, where Evans, then 30 years old, met the victim at a party.
The woman, who was 32 at the time, had fallen asleep in a bedroom and woke up to find Evans assaulting her.
Evans, of Blenheim Road in Yapton, was quickly arrested after the police were informed on the same day.
The investigation, conducted by Sussex Police, was complex and involved gaining the trust of witnesses and the victim herself.
Charge proceedings began in March of the previous year, and the case was brought before Lewes Crown Court, where Evans was ultimately convicted and sentenced.
A police spokesperson, PC Steve Hargrave, stated, “This was reported to us on the same day and we quickly arrested Evans.
Both Evans and his victim were members of the local street community and it took some time to gain the confidence of several witnesses, and of the victim herself.
After an investigation we charged Evans, on the authority of the CPS, in March last year and the case has been before the courts since then.
This was a complex and thorough investigation and we are glad that justice has now been done for the victim.”
