TIMOTHY CONYERS FROM SPETBURY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER POSSESSING DEPRAVED CHILD IMAGES IN BOURNEMOUTH

In a case that has shocked the local community of Spetisbury and the wider Bournemouth area, Timothy Conyers, a 40-year-old man residing in Priory Gardens, appeared before Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, July 16, 2021, facing serious charges related to the possession of indecent images of children. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Conyers was not sentenced to immediate imprisonment but received a suspended sentence that reflects the severity of his actions.

Conyers had pleaded guilty to possessing a significant number of indecent images, which included both still photographs and videos. These images depicted children as young as two years old, and some involved acts of bestiality, highlighting the disturbing and depraved nature of the material he possessed. The court was told that the images fell into various categories, with 46 classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse, 46 as Category B, and 62 as Category C. Additionally, there were 129 extreme pornographic images found on his devices.

Prosecutor Sadie Rizzo detailed the police operation that led to Conyers' arrest. In March of the previous year, authorities executed a search warrant at his residence following intelligence provided by the National Crime Agency. During the raid, officers seized a mobile phone, a customized computer, and a hard drive. An examination of these devices revealed the disturbing content, which Conyers initially claimed was not his and suggested that others might have had access to his computer because he worked at a hub. However, during a subsequent interview, he refused to comment on the matter, offering no explanation for the possession of such images.

Judge Robert Pawson described the images as “revolting” and “particularly depraved,” emphasizing the seriousness of the offense. While he acknowledged the absence of previous convictions and the potential for rehabilitation, he warned Conyers that if he were to reoffend or appear before the court again, he would face immediate imprisonment. The judge sentenced Conyers to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Conyers was ordered to complete 50 days of rehabilitation, pay a fine of all his £600 savings, and was subjected to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. He was also ordered to pay £275 in court costs, along with a victim surcharge. The court heard that pre-sentence reports, which considered Conyers’ previously good character, suggested that he could benefit from rehabilitative measures.

Judge Pawson made it clear that possessing such images contributes directly to the abuse and suffering of children. He stated that “just because you haven’t committed physical abuse yourself, doesn’t mean you are absolved of responsibility.” The judge underscored that individuals like Conyers are “directly responsible for the hideous sexual abuse of children as young as two or three,” highlighting the importance of public safety and the need for strict consequences for such heinous crimes.
