POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR KILLING LOVER GETS SENTENCE HIKE ON APPEAL
Timothy Brehmer, a police officer from Hordle, Hampshire, was found guilty of manslaughter following the death of Claire Parry. His initial sentence was 10 and a half years, but this was later raised to 13 and a half years by the Court of Appeal.
Brehmer admitted to manslaughter after confessing that he had strangled Ms.
Parry once their secret affair was uncovered.
The case was sent back to the Court of Appeal because the Attorney General believed the original punishment was too light.
The court noted that Brehmer’s behavior was deeply condemnable, and his attempts to hide the truth—such as injuring himself, giving false police statements, and pretending to have been harmed—showed his deceitful character.
The trial heard that Ms.
Parry, a married nurse, confronted Brehmer outside the Horns Inn in West Parley about his long-standing extramarital relationship, which lasted over a decade.
During their confrontation, Brehmer claimed her death was accidental, resulting from a physical struggle in his vehicle where his arm slipped.
He tried to hide his involvement by injuring himself with a knife and asserting that she had stabbed him.
Police body-cam footage depicted Brehmer, bloodied and crying, soon after the incident.
He was dismissed from Dorset Police and added to the national police barred list.
The Court of Appeal stressed that the first sentence did not adequately reflect the gravity of his actions and that his dishonesty and manipulative conduct justified a longer punishment.
