NI MAN CONVICTED OVER ‘UPSKIRT’ VIDEOS OF TEACHERS FEATURES IN ARTS COUNCIL AND BBC PR INITIATIVE AFTER £5K BURSARY AWARD
A man convicted in 2019 of making covert videos of two teachers at Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, Timothy Boomer, has a criminal record for acts of a lewd and obscene nature that outraged public decency. The incidents occurred when Boomer was aged 14 and 15, and his offending was uncovered when he was 16.
Despite his criminal past, Boomer was awarded a £5,000 bursary by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and featured in a BBC PR initiative to promote young musicians.
He has expressed remorse, stating, "I am deeply sorry for the hurt I have caused to my teachers.
It was a wrong, horrible thing to do and, at that age, I stupidly and wrongly thought it was a daredevil prank, which I genuinely meant no harm by.
I recognize how wrong I was and that my actions have had a devastating impact." He received a 20-hour restorative order following his conviction.
The article highlights the controversy surrounding his achievements and the impact on his victims, including Sally Rees, a teacher and victim who described her trust being shattered by Boomer’s actions.
