THOMAS KEELEY FROM CLEOBURY MORTIMER ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD IMAGE CHARGES IN SOUTH SHROPSHIRE
In a recent case heard at Shrewsbury Crown Court, Thomas Keeley, a 26-year-old resident of Yeldside Gardens in Cleobury Mortimer, faced serious allegations related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children. The charges stemmed from activities that took place in South Shropshire, a region known for its quiet rural communities, but which has recently been shaken by this disturbing case.On May 19, Keeley appeared before the court to face the consequences of his actions after he had previously pleaded guilty on February 23 to three counts of making indecent images of children. The court's proceedings revealed the gravity of the situation, but also the leniency of the sentence handed down. Keeley was sentenced to eight months in prison, but this term was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
As part of his sentencing, Keeley was ordered to undertake a comprehensive rehabilitation program, which includes 43 days of an accredited program designed to address issues related to his offending behavior. Additionally, he is required to participate in a 23-day rehabilitation activity, aimed at reducing the risk of reoffending and promoting behavioral change.
To further protect the community, a sexual harm prevention order was issued against Keeley for a duration of ten years. This order restricts his activities and access to certain devices, aiming to prevent any future harm. The court also imposed a deprivation order on all electronic devices seized during the investigation, including phones and computers, effectively removing them from his possession.
Furthermore, Keeley was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187, which is a standard part of sentencing in such cases. The court placed strict conditions on his use of computer equipment, requiring him to report to the police whenever he acquires any such device. He is also prohibited from deleting his search history, and must make all devices available for inspection upon request by police officers or authorized staff. If deemed necessary, law enforcement officials are permitted to install monitoring software on his devices to manage and mitigate risks associated with his behavior.
This case highlights ongoing concerns about online safety and the importance of rigorous legal measures to prevent the exploitation of children. The community of Cleobury Mortimer and the wider South Shropshire area remains vigilant, hoping that such legal actions will serve as a deterrent to others who might consider engaging in similar criminal activities.
