THOMAS FORSTER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN MINCHINHAMPTON
In a recent court case at Gloucester Crown Court, Thomas Forster, a 33-year-old former jockey residing on Box Lane in Minchinhampton, was sentenced for the serious offense of sexually assaulting a teenage boy. The incident, which took place on January 10, 2015, involved Forster sharing a bed with the victim at a friend’s house, during which he attempted to kiss the boy and subsequently committed a sexual assault.Forster’s actions came to light after the victim, now 18 years old, provided a statement last month detailing the profound impact the incident has had on his life. The court was informed that the victim has learning difficulties, which make his chronological age feel much younger, complicating his emotional and psychological well-being.
Prosecutor Virginia Cornwall emphasized the vulnerability of the victim, highlighting that the assault occurred during the night while Forster was in a position of trust. She explained that the victim’s statement revealed the lasting trauma caused by the incident, noting that he experiences flashbacks, finds it difficult to be alone, and is anxious about going to the bathroom by himself. The victim also expressed feelings of being watched and a strong aversion to returning to the scene of the offense.
In court, Forster admitted to the offense, which led to his sentencing. He was given a 15-month jail term, but this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offense within that period. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and was subjected to a two-year sexual harm prevention order, restricting his activities and contact with minors.
These measures reflect the seriousness of the crime and the court’s efforts to protect the community, especially vulnerable individuals like the victim. The case underscores the importance of safeguarding minors and holding offenders accountable for their actions, regardless of their previous professions or social standing.
