PHONE SEX PEST JAILED FOR SIX-YEAR CAMPAIGN OF OBSCENE CALLS
Thomas Christophi, a married man from Tinnacross, was convicted for making up to 200 sexual, lewd, and obscene phone calls to Mrs.Mary Morrissey, age 46, over a period of six years.
Despite being previously warned in 1999 after making similar calls to another woman and being convicted, he continued his behavior.
The case was brought before Gorey District Court last Friday, where he received a four-month jail sentence.
The judge described Christophi's crimes as 'exceptionally serious', particularly because he did not cooperate with psychiatric and probation reports aimed at helping him.
Mrs.
Morrissey suffered greatly due to the calls, which were reported to have caused her significant distress — 'They had an absolutely terrible effect on the lady, and she came to the Garda Station and my office about them a number of times,' stated Superintendent Pat Flynn.
Detective Garda Joe O'Sullivan interviewed Christophi in April last year, during which he admitted making between 150 and 200 calls of a sexual, lewd, and obscene nature from 1995 to 2001.
The offender expressed remorse and expressed a wish to seek treatment for his problem, acknowledging it as a serious issue, but the court noted that he did not co-operate with professional advice.
As a result, the court imposed the four-month sentence, emphasizing the need to protect victims from such offenses.
