THOMAS ALSTON FROM RIBBLETON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD BOY IN PRESTON AND LIVERPOOL
In a case that has shocked the local community of Ribbleton and the surrounding areas, Thomas Alston, aged 21, has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with a 13-year-old boy he met through social media.The incident highlights the dangers lurking on social networking platforms and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation.
Alston, whose residence is on Acregate Lane in Ribbleton, appeared in court to face serious charges related to his inappropriate conduct.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as a separate charge of sexual activity with a child.
The charges stem from a series of interactions that began on Facebook, where Alston and the young teenager initially connected.
Prosecutor Kirsten McAteer provided details of the case, explaining that the 13-year-old boy had turned to Alston seeking comfort and support amid ongoing bullying.
Their relationship was initiated through a mutual acquaintance, which led to frequent conversations on social media.
Over time, their exchanges included sexually suggestive text messages, indicating a troubling pattern of grooming and manipulation.
The court heard that the two eventually arranged to meet in person.
During their meetings, which took place in Preston and Liverpool, the pair drove around together.
It was during these encounters that physical contact occurred, with Miss McAteer stating that “touching” took place between them, further emphasizing the severity of the misconduct.
Defense lawyer Richard Orme attempted to contextualize Alston’s actions, asserting that this case did not fit the typical profile of grooming by predatory paedophiles who target social networking sites.
Despite this, the court found the evidence sufficient to impose a significant sentence.
As the sentence was handed down by Rt Hon Mrs Justice Swift, Alston was visibly distressed, sobbing in the courtroom.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of online interactions and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable minors from exploitation and abuse.
