OFFENDER JAILED FOR EIGHT YEARS AFTER BRUTAL REPEATED RAPE
A rapist who subjected a woman to a degrading sex ordeal in her home was jailed for eight years at the High Court in Edinburgh, yesterday.
Lord Philip told Terence O'Hara, 32: "This was an appalling attack on a defenceless woman in her own home, to which you gained entry by deceipt in the middle of the night." The court heard that O'Hara, of Graham Street, Kelloholm, near Sanquhar, Dumfriesshire, repeatedly raped his 22-year-old victim on September 23 last year.
O'Hara, a father of three, denied grabbing the woman by the arm and pulling her upstairs from the living room of her home to a bedroom.
He threw her to the floor, forcibly removed her nightdress, pulled her onto a bed, raped her, forced her to have oral sex, before raping her again and sodomising her.
He then kept her captive in the house and repeatedly prevented her from leaving.
During the trial, the court was told that O'Hara, whom the woman knew by sight, had got into the house after arriving at the door with a friend of hers.
The jury convicted O'Hara of repeatedly raping her, and he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
The court was also informed that O'Hara had previous convictions dating back to 1983, but none of a similar severity.
