TERENCE MAXTED FROM KINGSTHORPE SENTENCED FOR REPEATED SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN NORTHAMPTON
In August 2018, a man from Northampton, identified as Terence Maxted, was sentenced to prison for a series of heinous sexual offences committed against young girls. Maxted, who resides on Lockwood Close in the Kingsthorpe area, was found guilty of numerous acts of indecent assault and inappropriate touching spanning several decades.According to court proceedings, Maxted's crimes took place over a long period, with victims coming forward from different eras—one in the 1960s, another in the 1980s, and a third in the mid-2010s. All three victims were under the age of 16 at the time of the abuse. The court heard that Maxted would often manipulate his victims by telling them that what was happening was merely a game, a tactic to diminish their understanding of the severity of his actions.
During the trial, each of the victims recounted how Maxted exploited moments when he was alone with them to carry out his predatory acts. They described how he would take advantage of these isolated opportunities to commit further abuse, with Maxted showing a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior across different periods of their lives.
Judge William Harbage QC, presiding over the case, described Maxted’s conduct as “despicable offences,” emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. The court was told that Maxted’s actions had caused lasting harm to his victims, and his pattern of abuse was characterized by manipulation and exploitation.
As a result of his conviction, Maxted was sentenced to nine years in prison. Additionally, he will be required to remain on the sex offenders register for the remainder of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
