2022: REDDITCH MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND PROPERTY DAMAGE AFTER ATTACKING EX-PARTNER
A REDDITCH man who assaulted his ex-partner three times over two days after accusing her of sleeping with his brother has been jailed.Terence Danks of no fixed address, but living in the Redditch area, had denied the allegations against him until a jury trial was about to get underway when he changed his pleas to guilty.
Prosecutor Phil Brunt said: “All the offences relate to his relationship with his on/off partner Kelly Tomlinson.
They had been together for about seven years and had split up during 2019.
But on September 6th last year - when Danks was on court bail accused of threatening to cause criminal damage - for which he was subsequently jailed for four months - he burst into Ms Tomlinson’s home during the early evening.
“He said he had been told things that made him angry and upset.
He was fuming and he grabbed Ms Tomlinson by her throat and pushed her up the wall in the hallway.
He said to her ‘Tell me the truth, why did you sleep with my brother?’ Ms Tomlinson was able to pull his hands away from her throat.
Ms Tomlinson says she was left with visible red bruising on her neck.
She stated that she feared Danks was going to kill her.
The court heard that Danks later returned to see Ms Tomlinson and continued to assault her.
She was in the street when he challenged her over the same allegations.
Danks then hit her in front of some children and left the area soon afterwards.
Later in the day he contacted Ms Tomlinson by phone and reluctantly she agreed to meet him at a local pub.
The first thing Danks did as Ms Tomlinson arrived in the car park of the Forge Mill pub in Redditch was to demand that she hand over her phone.
She refused but Danks grabbed it from her.
He went through the messages and when he found one he didn’t like he smashed her phone on the ground.
Danks then slapped her in the face and split her lip.
In the afternoon while Ms Tomlinson was out in her car Danks deliberately drove into her vehicle causing some considerable damage.
Danks claimed that the brakes had failed.
The court was told that the damage to Ms Tomlinson’s vehicle was in excess of £1,500 and that any cheating during the couple’s relationship had been from Danks and not Ms Tomlinson.
Mr Masters said: "Danks has lost his means of working, his car and his accommodation.
He will have to completely rebuild his life on his release from prison.” Danks, aged 38, admitted charges of assault causing actual bodily harm to Ms Tomlinson on September 6, 2021, and assaulting her on two occasions by beating her the following day, September 7, 2021.
He also pleaded guilty to damaging property, namely the vehicle owned by Ms Tomlinson on September 7, 2021, and criminal damage to her mobile phone on the same date.
The judge sentenced Danks at Gloucester Crown Court on Friday, April 29 to a custodial sentence of 19 months.
Recorder Turner also subjected Danks to a five-year restraining order against his former partner and ordered him to pay a £156 victim surcharge.
