LEESWOOD MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING AND ASSAULTING PARTNER
Tecwyn Woodward, a 55-year-old resident of Leeswood, was jailed after a lengthy assault on his partner, Catherine Elvin. The attack, which took place on November 19, 2022, occurred during a period when Woodward was under the influence of alcohol and engaged in violent behavior.
He seized Ms Vaughan by her shoulders, forcefully pushed her onto the ground, breaking a stool and causing bruising to her back.
He then wrapped both hands around her neck, strangling her in a serious act of violence.
The assault escalated when he headbutted her in the face, leading to a black eye and a swollen nose.
The violence ended only when she expressed alarm that he might kill her.
A neighbor intervened, challenging him about the violence and removing him from the property, after which Ms Vaughan fled.
She later provided a personal statement indicating that her experience left her feeling 'scared' and 'worried' about his possible return, and that the incident had significantly affected her mental and physical well-being.
In January, Woodward pleaded guilty to charges of strangulation and Actual Bodily Harm.
He faced sentencing on April 2 and was sentenced to 25 months in prison, alongside a five-year restraining order.
The court described the assault as 'sustained violence.' During sentencing, defense representative Rosemary Proctor emphasized that Woodward was actively working on himself in custody and that he suffers from health issues and substance misuse.
