‘BRUTAL’ BERMUDIAN JAILED 20 YEARS IN UK
A man from Bermuda was taken into custody last week in the UK after being sentenced to 20 years for a series of severe domestic abuse and sexual offences against his former partner and another woman.Tarik Hill, aged 35 and previously residing in Devonshire, was convicted on various charges, including false imprisonment, assault causing actual bodily harm twice, harassment aimed at instilling fear of violence, controlling and coercive behavior, and the sexual assault of a woman aged 16 or older.
Following a trial in January, Hill was found guilty of these crimes, and in a separate trial in May, he was convicted of raping another woman.
Hill, who does not have a permanent address in Britain, faces an extended sentence of 15 years in prison, followed by a five-year license period.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for life.
London’s Metropolitan Police Detective Constable Mark Annal, who led the investigation, described Hill as a 'violent, high-risk offender whose partner endured a truly horrific pattern of abuse.' He expressed relief that Hill is now incarcerated, preventing further harm, while also recognizing the profound effect on the victims.
Court records revealed that Hill met his 29-year-old partner in late 2016, with abuse beginning a few months into their relationship.
His violence included physical assaults, verbal threats, and efforts to isolate her by deleting her contacts.
In March 2017, Hill subjected her to an extended attack lasting several hours, refused her permission to leave the house, and forced her into sexual acts afterward, keeping her confined to the bedroom until she agreed.
After their relationship ended shortly thereafter, she reported the abuse to police in May 2017.
Hill was arrested the next day and charged in August 2017.
Despite denying involvement, authorities found evidence contradicting his claims of being at work during the incident.
The Bermuda Police acknowledged awareness of Hill’s conviction and sentencing, pending official confirmation from UK authorities.
