CHILD SEX OFFENDER JAILED FOR 15 YEARS AFTER ONLINE GROOMING AND ASSAULT
A man with a criminal past, who impersonated a teenage boy online to befriend young girls, then lured them into real-life meetings and committed sexual assault, has received a 15-year prison sentence.Between 2019 and 2023, Syed Shahreear Ahmed, aged 37 and residing on Mossford Lane, Barkingside, targeted six girls aged between 13 and 15, producing and distributing indecent images of them.
He was convicted at Southwark Crown Court on Friday.
Besides his custodial sentence, he will serve an additional five years on license and will be registered as a sex offender for life.
On June 13, the same court found Ahmed guilty of 14 child sex offences, which included grooming, engaging in sexual activities with a minor, creating and sharing indecent images of children, rape, and attempting to incite a minor to engage in sexual acts.
The Metropolitan Police emphasized that the case followed a detailed investigation across five counties, involving cooperation among several police agencies.
Detective Inspector Peter Harvey of the Met’s Specialist Crime Central unit commented: “Thanks to the courage of the girls who reported their experiences, we have been able to secure this conviction, and I am grateful for their cooperation that brought Ahmed’s actions to light.
“Through a lengthy and complex investigation with forces from Cambridgeshire, Thames Valley, Essex, and Kent, we uncovered Ahmed’s methods.
He would search for children online, arrange quick in-person meetings, and then commit heinous acts on girls as young as 14.”
