SVENN NORENDAL SENTENCED IN ASPATRIA FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

In June 2019, a man named Svenn Norendal was formally sentenced to prison for his involvement in the sexual abuse of two children, a case that has garnered significant attention in the local community of Aspatria.

Norendal, aged 66 and residing in Hayton near Aspatria in Cumbria, was found guilty after a trial at Carlisle Crown Court.

The jury convicted him on six counts of indecent assault, one charge of engaging in sexual activity with a child, and an additional count of indecency with a child.

Despite his initial denial of the allegations, the evidence presented during the trial led to his conviction.

Prosecutor Tim Evans highlighted the long-lasting emotional impact of Norendal’s actions on one of the victims, emphasizing that the individual had spoken about the profound emotional distress caused by the abuse over many years.

The court heard that the abuse had left deep scars on the victims, affecting their mental health and well-being over an extended period.

Judge Andrew Jefferies QC delivered the sentence, which included a 10-year prison term for Norendal.

Additionally, the judge imposed a two-year extended licence period, meaning that Norendal will be subject to supervision and restrictions even after serving his prison sentence.

As part of his punishment, Norendal is required to register as a sex offender indefinitely, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.

Furthermore, he is permanently barred from working with children and vulnerable adults, reflecting the severity of his crimes and the court’s commitment to protecting at-risk populations.
