DOVER MAN STUART TURNBULL JAILED FOR BRUTAL VIOLENCE AGAINST GIRLFRIEND AFTER PRISON RELEASE
Stuart Turnbull, described as a 'drunk and drug-fuelled brute,' and noted for his jealousy and paranoia, was convicted of battering his girlfriend intensely just weeks after being released from custody. The court was told that he engaged in repeated acts of violence, including punching, headbutting, kicking, and strangulation.
Judge Daniel Stevenson characterized Turnbull's behavior as 'prolonged, persistent domestic abuse involving serious violent conduct and threats of violence, including efforts to stop [your victim] from supporting a prosecution.' After serving a previous sentence for similar offenses, Turnbull had only been out of prison for a few months at the time of the latest incident.
The victim incurred injuries such as bleeding, bruises, and a fractured rib and suffered emotional trauma marked by fear, self-blame, and feeling powerless.
Initially courageous enough to report the abuse, she later withdrew her statement under pressure and threats.
The judge commended her bravery in coming forward.
Turnbull's violence involved punching her in the face, blaming her for bleeding, smashing doors that caused glass to shatter, controlling her appearance, and threatening her with a knife.
Her desperate escape to Dover port, barefoot and distressed, led police to find her with red marks around her neck.
He was convicted of multiple charges, including actual bodily harm through assault, controlling and coercive behavior, witness intimidation, and strangulation.
He received a five-year prison sentence and a ten-year restraining order.
The judge pointed out his history of domestic violence convictions and stated that Turnbull's 'extreme jealousy and paranoia, fueled by alcohol and drugs,' was what motivated his violent actions to assert power over his partner.
