STUART HOOPER OF CHILWELL SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR HORRIFIC SEX ATTACKS IN NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
In a case that has sent shockwaves through Nottinghamshire, Stuart Hooper, a 44-year-old man formerly residing in Chilwell, has been convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses spanning over two decades. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior, culminating in a sentence that could see him behind bars for the rest of his life.Hooper was found guilty of a total of 24 sexual offenses, including 14 counts of rape, five indecent assaults, three sexual assaults, one assault by penetration, and one charge of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity. Additionally, he was convicted of a common assault. The victims included two adults and two children, with some of the offenses committed against minors under the age of 13, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions.
The crimes were committed over a period of approximately 20 years, with the jury being told that the offenses occurred at various times throughout this extensive timeframe. Despite his denial of the charges, the evidence presented during the nine-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court was compelling enough to secure a conviction. The court's decision was announced on June 21, and Hooper was remanded into custody pending sentencing scheduled for August 10.
In sentencing, Judge Gregory Dickinson QC imposed a series of prison terms. Hooper received three concurrent sentences of 32 years each, along with an additional 10-year sentence to be served consecutively. This means that, should he serve the full term, he will be 86 years old at the time of release. The judge also stated that Hooper would only be eligible for parole after serving two-thirds of his custodial sentence, emphasizing the dangerous nature of his crimes.
Judge Dickinson described Hooper as a highly dangerous offender, expressing profound concern over his lack of remorse and understanding of the gravity of his actions. The court's ruling underscores the severity of the offenses and the impact on the victims, as well as the community's need for justice and protection from such predatory behavior.
