MAN'S ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS EX INCLUDED THREATENING SUICIDE
2025-12-06 00:46: A COUNTY man who was abusive to a former partner has been banned from having contact with her for 99 years.The conduct carried out by Stuart Hamilton included him making threats of violence towards the woman, making unwanted phone calls, and sending unwanted texts and social media messages.
The 53-year-old attempted to persuade the woman to resume their relationship, blamed her for the breakdown of another relationship and put the blame on her for his poor financial position.
Court papers also stated that the abusive behaviour saw Hamilton, of Park View, Pencaitland, utter threats of violence towards the woman and make threats of suicide.
Hamilton pleaded guilty to the domestic abuse offence prosecuted under Section 1 of the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Act 2018 when he previously appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in October.
Sheriff Julius Komorowski sentenced Hamilton to a community payback order where he has to attend social work supervision appointments for the next two years and will have to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work.
The sheriff also ordered Hamilton to attend sessions with the domestic abuse organisation Caledonian Men's Programme and was told he could not approach or contact the woman in any way after having a 99-year non-harassment order imposed.
