DRUNK MAN WHO FELL ON BABY STRAPPED INTO CAR SEAT IS JAILED
A five-week-old boy suffered blood clots outside the brain after the incident at a house in Twechar.
Steven Whiteford, 30, drank beer and Buckfast while in charge of the baby.
He told police he tripped while carrying the child in his car seat.
Glasgow Sheriff Court found evidence of haemorrhages, cuts, and bruises on the baby’s face.
Whiteford, of Kilsyth, pleaded guilty to culpably and recklessly failing to care for the child.
He was sentenced to 14 months in jail.
Sheriff Paul Crozier said: "You failed to get help for that child when that child was injured.
You denied responsibility and only later accepted it." The incident happened on 28 July last year, when Whiteford was at a friend's house before a wedding.
The child's mother left him strapped in the car seat with Whiteford while she went upstairs and later heard the baby cry and found blood in his mouth.
