Ryde Rapist
Steven Roy Reddin, aged 58 and residing on Arundel Close in Ryde, has been sentenced to ten years in prison following his conviction for a series of historical sexual offenses against a child. The crimes were committed between 1991 and 1994, beginning when the victim was only 9 years old. The now adult woman reported her abuse to authorities in 2019, which prompted a thorough investigation. Reddin faced several charges, including two counts of rape of a girl under 16, gross indecency with a child, inciting a girl under 14 to engage in gross indecency, and two counts of indecent assault. During a court appearance at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on May 24, he pleaded guilty to all charges. On August 20, he was sentenced to ten years in prison, along with a lifetime restraining order and a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Investigating officer DC Gillian Harvey emphasized the victim's remarkable perseverance in coming forward after many years, and she highlighted the lasting harm caused by such crimes. She also noted that Reddin was aware of his wrongdoing but chose to carry on, disregarding the impact on the victim. The police encourage anyone who has experienced child sexual abuse to contact them at 101 for confidential support.
