Steyning Child Sexual Abuser
In a recent court ruling at Lewes Crown Court, Steven Povey, a 39-year-old man from the Steyning area, was sentenced to a year in prison after being found guilty of multiple charges related to child pornography. The case brought to light the disturbing nature of his offenses, which involved the creation and possession of indecent images of children, some of which were classified at the highest levels of indecency.

At the time of the alleged crimes, Povey was residing in South Ash, a locality within Steyning. However, his current address has been recorded as Downland Park, located on The Street in Bramber, a village near Steyning. The court proceedings revealed that Povey had admitted to 12 counts of making indecent images of children, alongside four additional charges related to the possession of extreme pornography.

The seriousness of these offenses was underscored by Detective Inspector Alison Eaton, who commented on the case. She emphasized that each indecent image of a child available online represents a real victim, and that Povey’s actions contributed directly to the ongoing cycle of abuse and exploitation. She further pointed out that the internet, often perceived as a space offering anonymity, does not provide immunity from law enforcement scrutiny. In Povey’s case, digital evidence was sufficient to trace the images back to him, illustrating that online activity can have tangible legal consequences.

As part of his sentence, Povey was also subjected to a lifetime Sexual Prevention Order, which aims to restrict his access to certain online content and prevent further offenses. Additionally, he will be registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities related to sexual offenses involving minors.
