COUNTY DURHAM MAN SENTENCED TO 18 MONTHS FOR THREATS TO BURN DOWN EX-PARTNER'S HOME
Steven Jackson, aged 33, from Esh Winning, was sentenced to 18 months in prison at Durham Crown Court after pleading guilty to making multiple threats while intoxicated.
The court heard Jackson made repeated threats to set fire to his former partner's bungalow, including a statement to her that he would 'burn, baby burn,' which caused her significant fear and distress.
Jackson also threatened to torch the home of a police officer who had been involved in his arrest.
His threatening behavior extended to messages calling her 'a grass' and warning that her house would be 'going up' if he was re-arrested.
He was found in a drunken state early one morning, making verbal threats to police.
Jackson's criminal record includes 26 convictions for 53 offences, such as criminal damage, threats, harassment, and assault, often related to previous relationships.
The judge highlighted his long-standing issues with alcohol, which contributed to his repeated offending.
Despite current employment as a window cleaner, the court emphasized the seriousness of his threats, particularly given his history, and imposed an 18-month prison sentence with a five-year restraining order forbidding him from contacting his former partner.
