A man with sectarian motives, 26-year-old Steven Gow, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison following a violent incident involving police officers near Auchterarder. Gow was arrested after crashing his Audi into a stone wall on August 12, causing considerable damage and prompting witnesses to see the car fly through the air before coming to a stop. Witnesses reported that Gow exhibited erratic behavior, shouting anti-Catholic slogans and verbally abusing police officers. Officers described him as furious when they approached him, and he claimed to have Covid-19, subsequently spitting at three officers during the confrontation.

During his arrest, Gow resisted police efforts and made threatening remarks, including a disturbing threat to a police officer’s deceased grandmother, saying, 'I will kill and rape your dead grandmother. I will dig her up and rape her.' Even after being subdued, Gow continued to mock law enforcement officials. He further assaulted officers in a hospital setting by kicking and spitting at them.

In addition to the charges arising from his crash and assaults, Gow has a prior record of public disorder and violent offenses. He has expressed remorse for his actions and recognizes that he deserves punishment. As well as his jail sentence, Gow has been disqualified from driving.

Sheriff William Wood remarked on the severity of Gow’s behavior, emphasizing the disturbing nature of his actions during the incident and his interactions with the police.
