THUG WHISPERED 'I'M GOING TO KILL US BOTH' BEFORE THROTTLING PARTNER IN COURT
A man whispered in his partner's ear that he was going to kill her and grabbed her by the throat, a court heard.Steven Evans pleaded guilty to the attack at their home in Laithes Croft, Earlsheaton, on May 6.
Prosecutor Sharon Thompson stated that at 9.30pm Evans engaged in a heated argument with the victim while she was in the kitchen.
She told Kirklees Magistrates' Court: “He approached her and whispered in her ear: 'If we're not going to stay together I'm going to kill us both'.
He encouraged her to hit him and laughed in her face during the confrontation.
He then followed her into the living room, grabbing her by the throat with both hands.
During the assault, her feet lifted off the ground before he slammed her onto the floor while still holding her throat.
The victim explained: 'He squeezed so hard I couldn't breathe and my nose started to bleed'.
Afterward, Evans released his grip, began crying, apologized, and then followed her around crying and hitting himself in the face, attempting to strangle himself.
She told the court: “She went to the bedroom, and he followed.
She handed him her mobile phone, which he used to record a confession about the attack.” Evans was arrested, claiming he lost control during an intense argument.
He said he then grabbed her by the throat because he feared she was going to leave and harm herself.
Deputy District Judge Natalie Wortley noted that differing accounts would influence his sentencing.
The case has been adjourned for a Newton Hearing on July 17 to establish the precise facts.
In the meantime, Evans is on bail with conditions not to contact the victim or visit her residence.
