STEVAN ANGELONI FROM GREAT GONERBY SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN LINCOLN
In a case that has shocked the community of Great Gonerby, Stevan Angeloni has been sentenced to four years in prison following his conviction for serious sexual misconduct involving a 14-year-old girl. The incident, which took place on February 28, 2012, was brought to light after the young victim managed to record a disturbing act on her mobile phone, providing crucial evidence that ultimately led to Angeloni’s conviction at Lincoln Crown Court.According to court proceedings, Angeloni, aged 41 and residing on Manor Drive in Great Gonerby, was accused of performing a sexual act in front of the teenage girl. Despite his initial denial of the charges, the jury found him guilty after viewing the footage captured by the victim. The footage showed Angeloni masturbating in front of the girl, an act she had the presence of mind to record during the incident. The court heard that shortly after the act, Angeloni approached the girl and asked if he could sexually assault her, but he did not follow through after she refused.
The case gained further attention when the girl shared the video with her friends at school, which led to the police investigation. Angeloni faced charges of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He was convicted on these charges but denied a further eight sexual offences involving the same girl and three other young females. The jury, after deliberation, cleared him of those additional allegations.
Judge Michael Heath, presiding over the case, delivered a stern sentence, condemning Angeloni’s actions as “a disgusting thing to do in front of that 14-year-old girl.” The judge emphasized the significance of the victim’s quick thinking in filming the act, which proved pivotal in securing the conviction. Judge Heath acknowledged that Angeloni was regarded as a well-regarded and hardworking individual, citing numerous references praising his character. However, he stated that only a prison sentence could be justified given the gravity of the offences.
During the sentencing, Angeloni’s defense attorney, Mark Watson, highlighted that his client had no prior criminal record and expressed remorse for the situation. Watson noted that Angeloni had already suffered significant personal and familial consequences due to the allegations and convictions, recognizing the seriousness of his actions and the impact on his reputation and life. Despite these mitigating factors, the court’s decision was clear, and Angeloni was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, marking a severe penalty for his misconduct.
