PAEDOPHILE'S PAST IS UNDER INVESTIGATION
POLICE are keen to discover the known movements of a convicted paedophile living near Basingstoke.Stephen Thrower, from North Waltham, has admitted breaking reporting restrictions and is due for sentencing.
Thrower appeared before Basingstoke magistrates on Monday after being caught trying to board a ferry to Ireland.
The restrictions had been put on Thrower after he was released from prison on licence.
The 40-year-old computer software engineer this week admitted possessing indecent photographs and breaking the residence restrictions on sex offenders.
Detectives from Hampshire Constabulary's Paedophile Investigation Unit said indecent images of the eight-year-old son of a woman he had befriended had been found on his computer.
Detective Constable Steve Norcross said: "We consider him a man who has been extremely dangerous in the time he has been at large." In 1993 Thrower, who then lived in Shepperton, was convicted at the Old Bailey of 21 charges of sexual assault on young boys in the Scout troop he helped to run.
Police officers became suspicious this year when Thrower was never at his house in North Waltham when they checked on him.
After inquiries, he was arrested on September 3 in Swansea - where he worked for the DVLC - and released on bail.
He was then arrested again trying to board a ferry at Holyhead on September 8.
Nicholas Bates, defending, said Thrower had gone to work in Swansea on weekdays but returned to his main address near Basingstoke at weekends.
Thrower was committed to Winchester Crown Court for sentencing on October 5.
