ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR POSSESSING 500 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
An individual named Stephen Rogan, aged 30, has admitted to collecting a considerable number of indecent images and videos of children. The investigation began when police executed a search warrant at his home in Aberdeen on May 16 last year, seizing two mobile phones.
During the search, Rogan was found to have downloaded a total of 516 explicit images, with the majority classified as the most serious Category A, along with over two hours of indecent videos featuring children aged between one and 14 years.
The images were downloaded over a period spanning from November 13, 2018, to April 17, 2021.
Rogan, a former retail employee, pleaded guilty to the charge of downloading these indecent images.
In court, the defence acknowledged his responsibility and shame, with his lawyer stating, "He has acknowledged that his offending would contribute to the cycle of child abuse images online." The judge, Sheriff Morag McLaughlin, emphasized the seriousness of the offence and the harm caused, advising Rogan to engage in programmes to understand the impact of such acts.
She sentenced him to a three-year community payback order with supervised probation, 200 hours of unpaid work, and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
Rogan was also ordered to participate in sex offenders’ treatment programs.
