In December 2019, a man from Stuartfield appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face serious criminal charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children and extreme pornography. The defendant, identified as Stephen Reid, aged 62, entered a guilty plea to two significant charges during the hearing.
Reid was charged with possessing extreme pornographic material between December 2014 and May 2018. Additionally, he faced allegations of taking, allowing to be taken, or creating indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children on February 8 of the previous year. These charges highlight the severity and duration of the offenses, which spanned several years.
The case was brought to the court’s attention after authorities acted on intelligence received regarding the presence of indecent images of children linked to Reid’s IP address. On May 29 of the previous year, officers executed a warrant at Reid’s residence, located at Crown Cottages in Stuartfield. During the search, multiple electronic devices, including laptops, were seized for examination.
Analysis of the seized devices revealed disturbing content. Among the material found was a Category A video, which is classified as the most serious level of child abuse imagery. This video, which depicted children, had a runtime exceeding 45 minutes, indicating a significant amount of exploitative content. In addition to this, investigators discovered several videos depicting acts of bestiality, classified as extreme pornography, further underscoring the gravity of the case.
The court was informed of these findings during the hearing, and the case was adjourned with Sheriff Morag McLaughlin deferring sentencing until the following month. Reid’s address was officially recorded as Crown Cottages, Stuartfield, at the time of the proceedings. The case continues to be a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of such heinous material.
