Monifieth Child Abuser
In November 2018, a violent incident unfolded in Monifieth involving Stephen Ingram, a 35-year-old man whose actions resulted in serious concern from local authorities and the community. The events began when Ingram forcefully entered a woman’s home after pushing past a delivery driver who had arrived with a Chinese takeaway. The confrontation was sparked by a heated argument between Ingram and the woman, which was reportedly triggered by her discovering that he had been speaking to another ex-partner at a wedding.
According to reports presented at Dundee Sheriff Court, the situation quickly escalated into violence. The court was informed that Ingram pushed his way into the woman’s residence, entering the kitchen area. During this intrusion, he pushed a child against a bathroom door, causing the child to strike the door handle in the process. The woman, distressed and shouting at Ingram to leave, was attempting to de-escalate the situation when the accused’s aggression intensified.
Witnesses and police reports indicated that Ingram’s violence extended to both children present at the scene. One of the children was reportedly seized by the neck and pushed, while the other was pushed against a wall, resulting in a visible mark on one of the children’s shoulders. The court heard that Ingram’s behavior was not isolated; he has previous convictions related to offences against the same woman, highlighting a pattern of violence and harassment.
Further incidents involving Ingram occurred in February of the following year. Police were called after Ingram was found inside the woman’s home, having fallen asleep there. During this encounter, both Ingram and the woman were heard shouting, and police found Ingram still inside the property. It was revealed that Ingram had breached his bail conditions by entering the street, being in the company of the woman, and violating a curfew. The police reports confirmed that Ingram had previously assaulted the children, including seizing one by the neck and pushing them, which caused injury.
During the court proceedings, Ingram pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including assaulting the children and breaching bail conditions. His defense solicitor, Paul Parker-Smith, expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that Ingram was remorseful for involving the children in the altercation. Parker-Smith explained that the argument had spiraled out of control, partly due to a physical altercation with the woman, who had struck him with the Chinese takeaway, spilling its contents. He stated, “There was a blazing argument and he pushed the child which resulted in a minor injury. He very much regrets the incident affecting the children as it did.”
Ingram, who was appearing via video link from HMP Perth, was temporarily remanded and the court deferred sentencing until February to allow for social work reports to be prepared. Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown decided to release him on bail pending the sentencing, which will determine the severity of his punishment for these violent acts in Monifieth.
