FARNWORTH MAN STEPHEN GODRIDGE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TEEN GIRLS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

In a case that has shocked the community of Farnworth, Stephen Godridge, born on 16 February 1993 and residing on Masefield Drive, was sentenced to a total of nine years and six months in prison at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday, 24 September 2019. The sentencing followed his guilty plea to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, specifically involving two 15-year-old girls.

Investigations into Godridge’s offending behavior revealed a disturbing pattern of online grooming and exploitation. It was established that he used the social media platform Snapchat to establish contact with teenage girls, befriending them with the apparent intent of manipulating and coercing them into sexual acts. His efforts to build trust and intimacy with these young victims were calculated, and he would often encourage them to engage in sexual activities through private messages.

Further disturbing evidence showed that Godridge made arrangements to meet with the girls in person. When these meetings occurred, he proceeded to sexually abuse the victims, actions that have left a lasting impact on those involved. The charges he faced and ultimately pleaded guilty to relate specifically to two victims, both of whom were only 15 years old at the time of the incidents.

It was also revealed that prior to these offenses, Godridge served as a Special Constable with Greater Manchester Police (GMP). However, following his arrest in October 2016, he was suspended from his duties. He later resigned from the force, but authorities confirmed that his criminal activities were not connected to his role as a police officer, nor were they committed while he was on duty.

This case underscores the dangers posed by online grooming and the importance of vigilance among parents, guardians, and young people themselves. The court’s decision to sentence Godridge reflects the severity of his actions and the need for justice to be served for the victims involved.
