FIFE 'ANIMAL' ABUSER COULD FACE EXTENDED SENTENCE AFTER HORRIFIC ATTACK
A violent and abusive incident occurred in Gateside where Stephen Gilmartin subjected his terrified partner to a harrowing four-hour ordeal involving physical violence and torture. The woman was restrained by Gilmartin who bound her hands and feet and strangled her until she lost consciousness.
During the attack, she sustained severe injuries including swollen eyes, broken bones, a fractured eye socket, and cuts.
She described the experience as feeling like she was going to die, saying to police, “He f*****g did this to me.
He’s a f*****g animal.” Neighbors and a friend heard the commotion and managed to call police.
Gilmartin, a previously convicted criminal, admitted abducting the woman, assaulting her, and breaching bail conditions by making contact.
The court was told that copious injuries indicated a sustained attack with elements of torture, with Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith considering an extended sentence.
The sheriff deferred the sentencing until next month to further assess Gilmartin’s risk, highlighting the extreme nature of the assault as “torturous behaviour.” Gilmartin had a prior conviction from 2012 for using a homemade weapon to cut off a man’s finger, which he then flushed down the toilet.
