STEPHEN DAWSON FROM ORCHARD PARK AND HULL FACES JUSTICE OVER SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRL

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Hull community, Stephen Dawson, a 68-year-old former foster carer and school caretaker from Nash Court, Orchard Park, was convicted of multiple sexual offenses involving a young girl.

The incidents took place in Hull, with Dawson's actions coming to light after the victim, now an adult, bravely came forward last year to reveal the abuse she endured in 2004.

According to court reports, Dawson sexually assaulted the eight-year-old girl and threatened her to silence her about the abuse.

The girl, who was vulnerable at the time, was subjected to Dawson's predatory behavior while he was working as a foster carer and at the former Teskey King School on Inglemire Lane, west Hull.

The case was brought before Hull Crown Court, where a jury found Dawson guilty of four counts of sexual assault and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

However, he was acquitted of the charge of raping the girl.

Judge Peter Kelson QC sentenced Dawson to four years in prison, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes.

The court also ordered Dawson to register as a sex offender, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.

The judge's decision underscores the gravity of the offenses committed by Dawson, who had previously been known as a trusted figure in the community.

Detective Constable Debbie Carter from Humberside Police’s Public Protection Unit expressed concern that Dawson might have other victims.

She urged anyone with relevant information to come forward confidentially, emphasizing the importance of protecting potential additional victims.

Detective Carter highlighted that Dawson targeted the young girl because she was vulnerable, and she stressed the importance of community vigilance.

The police investigation was initiated after the victim disclosed the abuse to her mother, leading to Dawson’s arrest at his home.

The victim, who gave evidence via video link during the trial, demonstrated remarkable bravery in facing her abuser in court.

Her strength and the jury’s belief in her testimony played a crucial role in securing the conviction.

Humberside Police continue to seek information from anyone who may have been affected by Dawson’s actions.

They encourage individuals to contact their Public Protection Unit in confidence at 0845 6060222.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring offenders to justice.
