SILEBY MAN JAILED FOR SECRETLY FILMING SEXUAL ENCOUNTER AND SHARING INTIMATE PHOTOS
A woman who was secretly filmed having sex at a Leicestershire hotel said she felt like "an object as opposed to a person".Stephen Buxton, of Kendal Road, Sileby, had been in a sexual relationship with the woman when the pair met at the OYO Sunrise hotel in Thrussington on July 14, 2025.
The 57-year-old hid his phone and recorded them without her knowledge.
Leicester Magistrates' Court heard the two had previously discussed recording sexual activity and she had consented, but Buxton did not ask her this time.
He went on to share intimate photographs of her without her consent on June 8 and June 11, 2025, and boasted about the situation to a friend, later accepting he had done so stupidly as "it made him feel good." A victim impact statement described how she was scared about what Buxton could do with the videos and that she had not been able to stop crying.
Prosecutor Simran Kaur told the court he "should have asked her before because he did not obtain consent." Buxton, dressed in a navy jumper and dark trousers, appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (April 21).
The court heard Buxton has nine previous convictions for 13 offences, his most recent being an eight-month sentence, suspended for 18 months, for stalking.
Hannah Spricer-Short, defending, said that at the time of the offences, Buxton had not offended for several years.
She said Buxton "accepts it was a very dumb thing to do and he apologises for the harm," adding: "He never wanted to hurt her.
It was an element of not thinking, of being stupid." She also stated Buxton is remorseful, in full-time employment, diagnosed with PTSD in 2018 and later with psychotic depression, and that his marriage has been affected by the case.
She argued that any requirement to undertake unpaid work could be detrimental and risk him losing his job.
Buxton was handed a 17-week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, ordered to sign the sex offenders register for seven years, and pay £85 in costs.
