SHOCKING CHILD SEX OFFENDER STEPHEN BRON FROM CWMMAWR SENTENCED IN LLANELLI AND SOUTHAMPTON
In December 2022, a disturbing case involving a 68-year-old man from Cwmmawr, Tumble, Llanelli, came to a close with a significant prison sentence handed down by the courts. Stephen David Bron was convicted of a series of heinous child sex offences committed in the Hedge End area, which led to his imprisonment for a total of 20 years.Bron’s criminal activities spanned over a five-year period, from August 1990 to December 1995, during which he repeatedly sexually abused two young children. The crimes were committed in the Hedge End region, an area that became the focus of the investigation and subsequent trial. The case was brought before Southampton Crown Court, where a jury found Bron guilty in November of multiple serious charges.
Specifically, Bron was convicted of one count of raping a female under the age of 16, one count of attempting to rape a female under 16, and six counts of sexual assault involving a child under 16. The court heard harrowing details of the abuse, which had a lasting impact on the victims. One of the victims, in her impact statement read aloud during the proceedings, described the abuse as “a constant shadow hanging over me,” revealing that she still suffers from flashbacks nearly three decades later. She expressed feelings of loss of bodily autonomy, stating that she felt as if her body was no longer her own, and reflected on how her life might have been different had she not endured such trauma during her childhood.
On Friday, December 16, at Southampton Crown Court, Stephen Bron was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison. The sentence included eight years for attempted rape and indecent assault, along with an additional five years for five counts of indecent assault. These sentences are to run concurrently, meaning Bron will serve the combined time simultaneously. Furthermore, the court imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, designed to restrict Bron’s contact with minors and prevent any further harm. An indefinite restraining order was also issued, prohibiting him from contacting either of the victims to ensure their ongoing safety and well-being.
Bron’s case highlights the enduring scars left by childhood abuse and the importance of justice for victims. His conviction and sentencing serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit such crimes, and the legal system’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals from further harm.
