STEPHEN ALISTAIR BEVAN SENTENCED IN TYCROES FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of Tycroes, Stephen Alistair Bevan, a 37-year-old man from Teglan Park, was found guilty of multiple sexual assaults involving two young girls. The incidents, which occurred several years ago, involved Bevan touching both girls inappropriately on multiple occasions, including while he was in his car and at various other locations.During the proceedings at Swansea Crown Court, the jury heard detailed accounts of the abuse. Bevan was convicted of five separate assaults on one girl, who was approximately nine years old at the time, and an additional assault on the other girl. The court was told that these acts took place over a period of time, with the victims subjected to indecent touching that caused significant distress.
On Friday, Judge Keith Thomas delivered the sentence, condemning Bevan to a total of five and a half years in prison. The judge sentenced him to four years for the series of five assaults on the first girl, and an additional 18 months for the assault on the second girl. Bevan was led from the dock protesting his innocence, maintaining that he did not commit the crimes.
His legal representative, Frank Phillips, emphasized that Bevan continued to deny the allegations despite the jury’s verdict. Phillips argued that Bevan, who previously worked as a mechanic, did not pose a danger to the public and suggested that the offences might have been influenced by his history of heavy drinking. The judge, however, described the offences as 'serious' and justified a lengthy custodial sentence, citing the gravity of the crimes.
Furthermore, Bevan was ordered to register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life, a measure intended to monitor and prevent any potential future offenses. The case has left a lasting impact on the community of Tycroes, highlighting the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse and the need for stringent legal consequences for such serious crimes.
