SHOCKING CRIME IN RUBERY: STEFAN TOOLE AND SHAUNA MCEVOY ABUSE YOUNG GIRL

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Rubery, a young girl under the age of 13 endured a horrific ordeal at the hands of a perverted couple during a long weekend in March 2015. The incident, which was brought to light during a court hearing at Birmingham Crown Court, revealed the extent of the abuse inflicted upon the innocent victim.

According to court records, the young girl was subjected to both sexual assault and physical violence, resulting in nearly 30 separate injuries across her body. When she was finally returned to her mother, the child's mother was horrified to find her daughter in a disheveled state, with visible signs of abuse including bruises and a mark on her head. The injuries were so severe that medical examinations confirmed the presence of wounds on her arms, legs, back, buttocks, face, and head. Additionally, a bite injury was identified, which matched the bite mark inflicted by Stefan Toole, along with finger pressure marks on her knees, indicating sexual assault.

It was revealed that Stefan Toole, aged 22 and residing on Deelands Road in Rubery, along with his girlfriend Shauna McEvoy-Byrne, had been entrusted with caring for the young girl over the weekend. However, their intentions appeared to extend beyond mere babysitting, as they allegedly sought to conceal the extent of her injuries by keeping her for an extended period. The court heard that Toole and McEvoy-Byrne hoped to hide the evidence of their abuse, which only came to light when the child's mother noticed her daughter's condition upon the handover.

Prosecutor Jennifer Josephs described the scene: “She saw that her child’s body was covered in bruises. She was absolutely horrified and called the police.” The medical examination confirmed the severity of the injuries, with doctors identifying 29 separate sites of injury on the girl’s body. The injuries were consistent with rough handling and harsh treatment, indicating a brutal assault.

During the trial, it was also disclosed that Stefan Toole had a prior conviction warning from police in 2008 for sexually assaulting a girl under 13. The court found it deeply disturbing that he had committed a similar offense while in charge of a young girl, raising serious concerns about his character and past behavior.

In the courtroom, Judge Philip Parker delivered the sentence. Toole was sentenced to four and a half years in prison after admitting to charges of child cruelty, assault, and sexual assault. His actions were described as deeply troubling and indicative of a pattern of predatory behavior.

Shauna McEvoy-Byrne, aged 20 and also residing on Deelands Road, was convicted of child cruelty after a trial. She received a 26-week suspended sentence, a decision that reflected her awareness of the injuries and her attempt to cover them up. During a phone call, she told the girl’s mother that her daughter had bruised her arm after falling against a radiator, a claim that was contradicted by the visible injuries and the condition of the child at the time of handover.

This case has left the community of Rubery in shock, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the need for protective measures for vulnerable children. The court’s findings underscore the severity of the abuse and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
