SAINTFIELD FARMERS SENTENCED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY AND EUTHANASIA
Two farmers from Ballycloughan Road, Saintfield, identified as Stanley Porter Snr and his son, Stanley Porter Jnr, have been sentenced to four months in prison after a dire case of animal cruelty.
The court found that 75 animals had to be euthanized by veterinarians, and a further 59 animals were rescued from the farm.
An inspection revealed that the animals were not being properly fed or watered, nor provided with dry lying areas.
Despite being warned two years earlier by Department of Agriculture inspectors, the farmers failed to improve conditions.
Court statements highlighted that Stanley Porter Snr claimed the animals were "thin but healthy." The case was described as "one of the worst cases of cruelty in Northern Ireland or anywhere in these islands." Enforcement officials called the case shocking, emphasizing that neglect and animal suffering were at the core of this cruelty.
The farm was also found to contain carcasses of animals that had died, with the father and son admitting to animal welfare charges, including causing unnecessary suffering.
Both were sentenced to four months, underscoring the severity of their neglect and cruelty.
