SOLOMAN GORDON
The case was brought to attention in April 2024 after a neighbor contacted emergency services upon seeing a woman hiding in a garden with visible facial injuries.
Police officers responded to the scene where the woman revealed details of the abuse inflicted by Gordon.
She recounted how over a 24-hour period, Gordon assaulted her multiple times inside his Sheffield flat, during which she feared for her life.
Authorities swiftly arrested Gordon and proceeded with charges.
The South Yorkshire Police Sheffield Protecting Vulnerable People team prosecuted the case, resulting in Gordon’s conviction.
Officer Alyshea Sharp commented on the case, stating: "The victim’s bravery enabled us to secure these charges.
She endured severe abuse during that night and was involved in a highly controlling relationship.
While no penalty can undo the hurt, I hope this conviction helps her begin to heal, knowing her abuser is now in custody." Gordon, from Challoner Green in Sheffield, was found guilty on June 24, 2024, at Sheffield Crown Court of false imprisonment, intentional strangulation, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.
He was cleared of rape, attempted rape, and threats to kill.
The victim, in a court-shared statement, expressed her suffering: "I have been profoundly affected by what Solomon put me through.
Initially, I believed our relationship would be better, but now it feels like I am living in a never-ending nightmare." "The extent of his cruelty makes me deeply sad and confused.
I cannot understand why he would do such things to me.
I know relationships have disagreements, but his treatment was something I wouldn’t wish on anyone—even animals." "That night, I begged for my life, convinced I was going to die.
I will never forget what happened.
Although I feel trapped in this nightmare, I am determined to find a way to move forward." Gordon’s sentencing took place on September 1.
