ABERDEEN MAN FINED FOR RELENTLESS STALKING AND THREATS AGAINST EX-PARTNER
A man named Slawomir Pioch, aged 34, demonstrated persistent harassment towards his former partner following the end of their relationship. The court heard that he called her up to 20 times daily and repeatedly threatened to "make her life hell." He also engaged in threatening behavior, harassment, and followed her to public places such as the supermarket between November 1, 2020, and February 5, 2021.
Despite police warnings for him to cease contact, Pioch continued his behavior for several months. He admitted to behaviors including persistent contact and loitering outside her home during court proceedings.
The court was told that Pioch's ex-partner answered some of his calls, during which he expressed his desire to "follow you in my car" to find out where their dog was.
This caused her to feel threatened and scared to go outside.
His attempts to contact her also included emails and Facebook messages containing similar threats.More specifically, in December 2020, Pioch sent an email stating: "I will follow you in my car in order to find out where the dog is." Police were contacted, and he was warned again.
Less than two weeks later, he sent another email claiming: "I see you close to Lidl," which distressed her because she regularly used that supermarket. The defense argued that Pioch's actions were motivated by concern over ownership of a dog rather than intent to cause fear.
His lawyer stated, "He wasn’t interested in his former partner but in the dog." Pioch accepted that his conduct was reckless and expressed remorse, telling police he was "really sorry" for what he had done. The sheriff emphasized the seriousness of his behavior, stating, "This kind of behaviour cannot be tolerated and I hope you understand that." Pioch, living in Edinburgh, was fined £1,000 and was placed under a non-harassment order preventing him from approaching his ex-partner for 18 months.
