A 71-year-old man named Simon Steeves has been found guilty of the murder of his wife, Denise Steeves, at their home in Brean, Somerset.
During proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, it was revealed that he inflicted stab wounds on her on October 25, 2023, and then contacted emergency services to admit the act.
Steeves pleaded guilty to the murder charge earlier in the month and received a life sentence with a minimum term of 13 years and 300 days, a period reduced to account for time served on remand.
Detective Inspector Neil Meade, the senior investigating officer, offered condolences and noted that although no prison sentence can undo the loss of Denise, the conviction offers some degree of closure for her family and friends.
The court's ruling came after Steeves admitted during police interviews that he had stabbed his wife to death but claimed he did not remember taking the knife, underscoring the tragic and serious nature of the event.
